An International Driving Permit

An International Driving Permit is a translation of your driving license for use abroad. It has multiple languages so that everyone understands which vehicles you are allowed to drive. In many countries, you are required to present an International Driving Permit when renting a (motor) vehicle. It also comes in handy if you need identification or assistance from local authorities.

An International Driving Permit is translated in more than 180 countries around the world and contains your name, photo and driver information in the 12 most spoken languages in the world. It is understandable for most local officials and authorities worldwide.

It does not diminish the holder’s obligation to have a valid driver’s license and passport at all times when driving abroad. You are not allowed to drive with an International Driving Permit if you do not have the valid driver’s license and passport of your country with you at the same time. You must be 18 years of age or older to apply for an International Driving Permit. The straightforward online application process can be completed in just a few minutes.
