More about Zimbabwe

Obtaining an International Driving Permit in Zimbabwe

The document you need when driving in Zimbabwe is an International Driving Permit (IDP). This translates your national driver’s license into English. If you will be staying in the country for less than three months, you can apply for an IDP with us by clicking on the “Start my application” button. Make sure you meet all requirements, including a valid national driver’s license, passport photo, and vehicle details if you are renting a car.

For a stay longer than three months, you must have a valid driver’s license and take a test at the Zimbabwe Driving License Authority (ZDLA). You need to pass the theory exam, practical exam, and vision tests.

During the ZDLA process, you will be guided by an instructor and use a provided car for the exams.

Cost of an International Driving Permit in Zimbabwe

The price for an IDP in Zimbabwe is only $25. The application process can be easily completed in three steps, as described earlier.

Driving in Zimbabwe for Foreigners

Foreigners are allowed to drive in Zimbabwe with a valid national driver’s license and an IDP. This document is essential for driving, checkpoints, violations, and car rentals. The IDP translates your driver’s license into English or other widely spoken languages worldwide.

Countries that recognize our IDP include Afghanistan, Botswana, Congo, Ireland, Japan, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Switzerland, among others.

Renewing an Expired IDP

An expired International Driving Permit in Zimbabwe can easily be renewed with us. Fill out the application form and receive an update on approval within two hours. The IDPs are valid for one to three years, and international shipping is available.

Main Driving Rules

It is crucial to know the main driving rules in Zimbabwe for a safe driving experience. Make sure you understand the rules to prevent accidents.

Carry Essential Documents

When driving in Zimbabwe, it is mandatory to have your local driver’s license, IDP, passport, and vehicle-related documents with you. Road traffic authorities will request these, so always keep them handy. Applying for an IDP does not require a visa, and a sample IDP in PDF format is available online.

Never Drive Under the Influence

Driving under the influence is strictly prohibited in Zimbabwe due to the dangerous consequences. This can not only lead to traffic accidents but even fatal outcomes.

Adhere to Speed Limits

Respect speed limits on the roads to ensure safety and prevent accidents. Violating speed limits can have serious consequences.

Pay Attention to Road Signs

Road signs are essential for a smooth journey. Make sure to notice them and follow the instructions to stay on track and avoid confusion.

Avoid Using Phone While Driving

Using your phone while driving is not allowed unless you have a hands-free system. Distracted driving can lead to accidents and is therefore dangerous.

Always Wear Your Seatbelt

Wearing a seatbelt is mandatory and can save lives in case of an accident. Adhere to this safety measure for your own protection.

Do Not Drive with an Expired License

Driving with an expired license is illegal in Zimbabwe. Ensure that both your local and international licenses are up-to-date and valid to drive legally.
